Man vs Art Interview with Carol Wyatt

Interview with Carol Wyatt
Man vs. Art with Raul Aguirre Jr.

You can hear the interview here:

A few items from my Simpsons days:

Simpsons Illustrated Magazine in 3D from 1992
It came with 3D glasses!

An original color markup from The Simpsons
Early 1990's

A lovely sketch by David Silverman, he left for me on one of my scene folders

I believe the people are (clockwise):
Sherry Gunther, Rich Moore, David Silverman, and Nancy Kruse (Why Nancy?
She was always bunnies and sunshine)

For the record, I never punched or kicked anyone. But Bea Arthur did
hit me with her car just outside our building on Highland and Fountain.

More Foster's BGs from 2004

More Foster's BGs from 2004...

I would be given a whole episode to do color design on the BGs, characters, props, and FX.

The BG designs, while I was on the show, were drawn by a few very talented artists at Cartoon Network, Dave Dunnet, Chris Riccardi, Dan Krall, and Don Shank.

All of the work was done in Illustrator with skies that had been painted in gouache and scanned into the computer.
Probably the last time I worked with a computer and paint in the same room!

SPRING INTERVIEW with my high school

Last fall, Ginny Tyler from St. Francis High School contacted me about doing an alumni profile for the spring newsletter. I had fun reminiscing and picking out a few moments to highlight from my career.... It reminded me how important it was to grow up in Kentucky without all of the entertainment bitterness.

The crew on this show was incredible!
It was the beginning for many famous animators including:
Conrad Vernon, Craig McCracken & Miles Thompson.

We didn't know it at the time, but that would be one of the last shows produced on the original Hanna Barbera lot.

Beatie Boys Video Art

Original painting from the Beastie Boys' Shadrach video directed by Chris Cassidy.

My first experience roto-scoping, and in be-tweening.
I had no idea what I was doing, but I knew how to draw and paint. Animation was a foreign animal to me then. Worked with some great artists and got to meet the Beastie Boys.
Even felt tiny ripples from the San Francisco earthquake while standing quietly and painting.

My paintings in the foreground with Marlon West painting next to me. He reminded me that we were lined up around the room in the order of the animation. Everyone had a different style. Very cool.

Music Video Art

Gouache Painting for a Butthole Surfers Video in the early 90s.
Worked with Bill Stobaugh and Wes Archer.

Anatomy of a Good Housekeeping Illustration

The article was for a Thanksgiving publication.
It was about kids fears of their scary Aunts and Grandmas
who come over for the family meal and kiss and terrify children who barely know them.

These two were my first sketches for the Art Director

The art director felt that the woman was too scary looking.
These two were revisions.

This was the final sketch.
The art director wanted the woman to be holding or kissing the child in some way.

The final illustration that was printed.

But,
this is still my favorite.
I painted it for myself.
