Anatomy of a Good Housekeeping Illustration

The article was for a Thanksgiving publication.
It was about kids fears of their scary Aunts and Grandmas
who come over for the family meal and kiss and terrify children who barely know them.

These two were my first sketches for the Art Director

The art director felt that the woman was too scary looking.
These two were revisions.

This was the final sketch.

The art director wanted the woman to be holding or kissing the child in some way.

The final illustration that was printed.

But,
this is still my favorite.
I painted it for myself.

Marriage

This is the first time I've painted my own image with Photoshop, rather than gouache.
